Gurus of the Gurdwara
Guru Ji, the guru of Nanak, declared that ghoras (day) is the time of the day
in which the Kundan is formed in the body and one should undertake a gharwar
prank at that time. In Nanak's time, there was the important data or pilgrimage
to Guru Nanak's mausoleum. Thus, Gurmukhs decided to teach the Nanak Baba about
the meaning of gharwar pranam.
They first led him to
a place where the presence of hundreds of elephants was visible, and then asked
him, "Do you know the meaning of ghouse azam?" "Gharwar" in
Urdu means wealth. As per the Guru's teaching, the Ghouse Azamcan be the
effectual remedy for weight loss.
Ghouse
Azam meaning in Urdu the Guru Nanak's
mausoleum was accompanied by a large quantity of food and sweets. Since gharwar
means wealth, the Guru's disciples wanted to make sure that their master ate as
much food as possible. They also used to offer their prayers to the Guru Nanak.
Therefore, the Guru's disciples started to wash, cook and serve all kinds of
food in the presence of the Guru's daughter, Harmandir Sahib, and the Guru's
baby son, Guru Har Rai.
This was the very
first time that the Guru's disciples used to do gharwar pranam. After this,
they started to bring all kinds of foods for the Guru. They had to store a lot
of food for the Guru during the time when the Nanak Baba was in the mausoleum.
They cooked the food
in the presence of the Guru before offering it to him, and they had to take
some gharwar pranam. It is through this Ghouse Azamthat the gurus teach the Nanak
Baba about the concept of gharwar. The purpose of gharwar prank is to make the
disciple learn the meaning of gharwar.
This Ghouse Azamis an
important step in Nanak Bhaiyya's practice of gharwar. To initiate the student,
Nanak Bhaiyya used to recite the entire holy Gurmukhi poem "Sangaarao Lala
Tila". The Guru's words and the Guru's zameen (singing the poetic
narration) are instrumental in making the disciple learns the meaning of
gharwar. The Guru is the source of all information that can help in any
respect.
The Ghouse Azamin the
presence of the Guru Nanak was the best way to impart the Gurbani to the Guru,
who was always ready to accept the Guru's teachings. Moreover, the Nanak
Bhaiyya used to take the person who performed the Ghouse Azamto the other parts
of the mausoleum so that he could learn the meaning of gharwar. As a result,
this practice made the disciples learn the importance of gharwar.
However, the Ghouse
Azamis still followed by Nanak Bhaiyya and the disciple, Bhai Ajit, who are the
Guru's elder son. In fact, the Gurbani is still prepared using the same method
that was used by the Gurus. Because of this, the most important meaning of
gharwar in Urdu is represented by the same meaning in Urdu: prosperity.
